Join this consultant led, specialist palliative care service across the rural county of Carmarthenshire?

This is a replacement post providing clinical leadership in the care of patients on a 6 bedded specialist palliative care in-patient unit in Llanelli ( Ty Bryngwyn ) This unit is also supported by junior medical staff and GPs with a Special Interest.

You will be providing clinical leadership to the community and hospital teams covering Prince Phillip Hospital and South Eastern Carmarthenshire with opportunities to be involved in education and community engagement initiatives, as well as improving the clinical service.

Refurbishment of Ty Bryngwyn is planned in the near future and so this would be an exciting time for a new post-holder to be part of the planning process. The aim is to provide a positive therapeutic environment for our patients.

We have excellent access to psychological support for our patients and offer bereavement support, anticipatory grief support and support to children. We are also able to refer specialist palliative care patients with more complex psychological support needs.

The Day Therapy services provided in Carmarthenshire are in the process of being reconfigured, offering a variety of complementary therapies on an individual or group sessional basis. The aim is that after time spent in our day therapy service, patients will be able to access services available in the community. An art therapy student has been part of our team for the last couple of months and this is a post that we would like to make permanent in the future.

You will enjoy excellent conditions of employment, whilst building your future in one of the best locations in the UK. West Wales is beautiful, sharing rugged coastlines with misty mountains. Outdoor sports are easy to pursue, whilst the amenities of urban centres such as Swansea and Cardiff are not too far away. The pace of life can be fast or slow, with a diverse range of people sharing an envious work-life balance across the region, with excellent quality schools, and reasonable property prices contribute to low living costs and high quality of life.

All posts will be offered on a 12 month locum contract initially with a view to becoming a substantive post thereafter.

Where necessary support will be given to help you obtain CESR and join the Specialist Register

If not already registered with the GMC, applications will only be considered if you have taken steps to start this process including successful completion of IELTS
