Consultant in General Medicine (will support CESR route if required) - Western Isles

An amazing opportunity is now available for a Consultant in General Medicine to work in the beautiful Western Isles. Applicants are invited to join the dedicated and passionate team based at the Western Isles Hospital situated in Stornoway.

If successful you will be working in a modern well-equipped acute sector, supported by a well-trained multi professional team. There are four acute wards:  2 medical (one of which contains a 4 bedded High Dependency Area (HDA) 2 surgical (one of which is a day surgery unit) and a maternity unit of 6 beds. In addition, there are intermediate care (nurse led) orthopaedic and general rehabilitation beds, a 4-bed paediatric area and a 6-bed dedicated stroke rehabilitation unit.

The Consultant provides both emergency and elective care to a high standard. Working within a small team, supported by excellent links with larger units and with high quality connectivity and transport arrangements, the Consultant is the key decision maker for the management of acute medical presentations.

The services provided within the medical speciality form a considerable proportion of the workload in the hospital. There are 400 - 450 new outpatient referrals per year and approximately 2000 un-selected admissions per year. There is a separately staffed Day Hospital for clinics and treatment.

The WIH uses an innovative approach to the provision of Out of Hours cover. Overnight work is carried out by GPs and Specialist Nurses; weekend daytime Out of Hours work is provided by Junior Doctors and Specialist Nurses. 

To be successful in this role you must be on the GMC Register (or eligible for registration) with current licence to practise and be eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register with support from CESR route. This job is subject to a police check. Salary will follow the NHS pay scale.
