Opportunity:
A great opportunity has arisen for a highly-skilled, enthusiastic, motivated, newly qualified or established Consultant to join a Diabetes & Endocrinology team of 4 consultants in Lanarkshire at a District University Hospital.
Working as a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology - The department, as well as providing General Endocrine and General Diabetes clinics, also provides subspecialty clinics including Young Person’s Diabetes Services, Transition Diabetes services, Type 1 Diabetes and Insulin Pump Clinics. There are also specialty endocrine clinics including radio-iodine services.
There are presently 4 Diabetes Consultants and an experienced GP who undertake various subspecialty clinics. There is a dedicated day unit for endocrine investigations, a full time endocrine specialist nurse and excellent on site Biochemistry and Radiology services..
The unit has an active research wing with dedicated research nurse support, and input from specialty trainees
There is a weekly diabetes MDT with community diabetes nursing staff held within the diabetes centre. There are plans to extend diabetes inpatient and foot services and enhance Type 1 diabetes service provision to the local population. The unit is supported by nursing auxiliary and administrative staff.
The QUEH hospital in Glasgow provides tertiary endocrine referral service for endocrine patients like those needing neurosurgery

Essential criteria

MBChB or equivalent.

MRCP (UK) or equivalent.

Current full registration with GMC with a license to practice.

Inclusion on GMC’s Specialist Register for Geenral Medicine or within 6 months of CCT or CESR (CP) at interview.

Experience in General Medicine.

Recent and relevant experience and personal qualities to work in a busy unit dealing with the high turnover of planned and unscheduled admissions.

Ability to supervise the clinical work of doctors in training and relevant staff in other disciplines
Desirable Criteria

Previous NHS OR HSE Irish experience at consultant level

Specialist GMC registration

Well-developed subspecialty interest in Diabetes/Endocrinology or Acute Medicine.

Postgraduate training

Experience in person-centred quality initiatives
