Scottish Highlands - Consultant in Cellular Pathology

We currently have an exciting vacancy for a Consultant to join the Cellular Pathology department in the stunning Scottish Highlands. This is a full time (10PA's) replacement post however applicants wishing to work part time or looking for flexibility in the working week will be considered and if this is your first Consultant appointment it be a monitored graduated workload. 

The successful applicant will complete a team of six Consultants providing a Cellular Pathology service for the Scottish Highlands and Islands. Applicants must be on the Specialist Register with a licence to practice and in possession of or within 6 months of obtaining CCT in Histopathology at the time of the interview. 

The Department provides a balanced mixture of specialist and generalist reporting practice. The successful applicant will be expected to take part in the general cellular pathology reporting rota and either have or develop special interests to complement those of colleagues and meet the needs of the Department. An interest in dermatopathology and diagnostic cytology would be advantageous but a general breadth of reporting as well as having the right person in post with us is also important.  The Department provides an extra-contractual autopsy service to the Scottish Fatalities Investigation Unit (North) and participation in this service would be welcomed. There is no requirement to report cervical cytology.

Inverness is the Capital of the Highlands and offers a range of leisure and sporting opportunities unequalled in the UK. The hospital is a modern well-equipped district general hospital with 454 beds, which serves a catchment area of almost 10,000 square miles covering the entire Scottish Highlands. It is a tertiary referral centre, cancer centre and a breast screening centre.

Living and working in the North of Scotland gives you the opportunity to play in the Cairngorms 30 minutes to the south, Torridon an hour to the northwest and those magical glens, Affric, Cannich and Strathfarrar 45 minutes to the west. Anything in a sweep from Ben Nevis to Ben Mor Assynt is within easy driving for a day walk. The Outer Hebrides are only a hop away from Ullapool, 50 minutes drive from Inverness.
