Head Medical are delighted to be recruiting for an Acute Medicine Consultant for NHS Dumfries & Galloway.

The service transferred to the new hospital in 2017 and is a 347-bed district general hospital in the University town of Dumfries, serving a population of 148,000. The successful candidate will work closely with the three existing Acute Medicine Consultants to provide senior presence and clinical leadership within the Combined Assessment Unit (CAU).

Contribution to the management of the CAU and development to changes in practice to continually improve the quality of patient care or facilitate early discharge will be a focus point within the job. Providing teaching and supervision to nursing staff, junior medical staff and students will be part of your remit as well as providing a key leadership role for the clinical services represented within the CAU.

The job is being offered on a full-time basis under the terms of the new Consultant contract. The job plan, subject to review, will contain 9+1 programmed activities, including one allocated to supporting professional activities. Additional SPAs may be incorporated into the job plan, depending on the time required to support and the needs of the service,

There will be the opportunity to maintain an existing specialty interest or Acute Medicine Special Skill, subject to negotiation and local service needs. Participation in the General Medical on-call rota is at a frequency of 1 in 12 (1 in 6 weekends).

The hospital is based on the western skirts of the town and the region itself offers beautiful countryside, from rugged cliffs and sandy beaches to forests, hills and rolling plains. With a wide range of activities on offer in the area you can maintain a great work/life balance. Housing prices are relatively low compared to the bigger cities and it boasts good schools for those in need. Being only 2 hours travel time from Edinburgh, Glasgow, Lake District and Newcastle you will be able to fully enjoy these places during time off.

To be considered for this post you must hold registration with the General Medical Council and be on the Specialist registration (or within 12 months of achieving this). Salary will follow NHS scales and be from £82,699 up to £109,849 and will be dependent on experience. This job is subject to a police check.
