Opportunity:

A great opportunity has arisen for a highly-skilled, enthusiastic, motivated, newly qualified or established Consultant to join an Acute Medicine department Endocrinology comprising of 3 consultants at a District University Hospital in Lanarkshire.

Working as a Consultant in Acute Medicine - The department has redesigned its Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) processes, enabling it to take forward a number of exciting new ‘front door’ developments including the establishment of an Ambulatory Emergency Care (AEC) unit. 

The Acute Physicians are well supported by Physician of the Day and dedicated Physician of the Week models, alongside Specialist Nurses in MAU.  Excellent support is also provided by nursing and medical colleagues in the Emergency Department.

The successful applicants will participate in the acute rota which is variable and flexible depending on the commitments of the team, and will also participate in the Physician of the Week/Day and weekend on-call rotas.     

Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals who are keen to contribute to the ongoing development of services.  Sub-specialty clinical interests are welcome and will be supported.

It is an exciting time to join UHM with the location of our new hospital now identified.  This will be Scotland’s first digital hospital which, through the use of available technologies, will enhance the patient journey and staff experience.  Clinical staff are actively encouraged to contribute to the development of the clinical models to support the planning of the new hospital.

About the Trust:

  • This trust currently employs approximately 12,500 staff.
  • Aim of this board is to develop a healthcare strategy that supports the development of an integrated health and social care system which has a focus on prevention, anticipation and supported self-management.
  • Centrally located between Glasgow (c. 20 minutes) and Edinburgh (c. 40 minutes) you can easily commute or, should you wish to relocate, you can chose either a substantial Lanarkshire town or a more relaxed rural location and still have the attractions of two major cities on your doorstep.

Essential criteria

  • MBChB or equivalent.

  • MRCP (UK) or equivalent.

  • Current full registration with GMC with a license to practice.

  • Inclusion on GMC’s Specialist Register for Medicine or within 6 months of CCT or CESR (CP) at interview.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous NHS OR HSE Irish experience at consultant level

  • Specialist GMC registration

  • Well-developed subspecialty interest in Diabetes/Endocrinology or Acute Medicine.

  • Postgraduate training

  • Experience in person-centred quality initiatives
