This Consultant Geriatrician position is in a beautiful part of regional Australia. Situated just on the New South Wales and Victorian border, Albury Wodonga sits on the Murray river. It is cojoined city with a population of over 90k.
It sits to the West of an alpine region where you can MTB, trek in the summer or enjoy the skifields in the winter.
The job is with the public health organisation Albury Wondonga Health. It is a major regional health service supporting a large catchment population of 250k +. AWH is a 337 bed health service. In the FY 2016-2017 it treated 35,368 inpatients, triaged 62,943 emergency presentations and 1,639 births.
Services provided included 30 sub acute beds, 95 mental health beds, 5 intensive care beds, 7 operating rooms, and 117 general beds in partnership with a range of community based residential facilities and community health centres. The health service delivers care and services across 17 different sites across North East Victoria and Southern NSW.
The job here will include delivering services in an inpatient and outpatient context. Further you will provide consultation services in the region. This includes specialist geriatric and internal medicine advice for the safe patient management and the facilitation of patient to appropriate geriatric services throughout the region. You will get involved in service development, teaching and supervision, quality improvement initiatives etc.
The climate fairly ‘Mediterranean’, Albury Wodonga's 4 seasonal changes (unusual for Australia) are clearly marked; hot dry summer, mild autumns and springs, and cool winters. Throughout the year the skies are frequently clear and blue.
Albury has an airport with regular flights to Sydney and Melbourne. Canberra is a 3hr+ drive, as is Melbourne.
If not FRACP, you must have completed your specialist training in either NZ, UK, Ireland, USA, Canada or South Africa or have been assessed by RACP as an international medical graduate.
