Consultant General Surgeon – Scotland
A permanent (or fixed term contract) opportunity is available for an experienced Consultant in General Surgery to work with my client in the Scottish Isles. Joining an excellent rural general hospital with 96 beds which cover specialities in General Medicine, General Surgery, Orthopaedics and Trauma, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics and Radiology. The Surgical Department cover both elective and emergency general surgery needs for the population, with visiting surgeons from the mainland cover ENT, ophthalmology and urology services.
The General Surgery Department deal with approximately 1,000 inpatients and 900-day cases per year, with an average of 1.5 emergency admissions per day. Bed occupancy runs at approximately 70-75%. An active undergraduate and postgraduate training programme is aligned to the hospital and you would be involved in teaching medical students and training junior staff.
You must be confident and capable of independent practise in all aspects of general surgery, have the ability to perform emergency upper GI endoscopy and have completed JAG recognised training in colonoscopy
The contract will be offered on a 10 PA basis with on call commitment. The salary will be within the range of £80,653 - £107,170 basic with an 8% availability allowance, and also a Distant Island Allowance of £1,043 per annum. GMC specialist registration will be required, with a license to practise. Tier 2 visa sponsorship may be possible also.
