You will be a General Surgeon who has significant experience in both upper and lower GI endoscopy. Additional sub-speciality interests that would be highly desirable are:
• Upper GI and/or Colorectal Surgery
• Laparoscopic Surgery
• Bariatric Surgery
Gladstone Hospital is a 70 bed hospital and offers a range of general and specialist inpatient and outpatient services including emergency, general medicine and surgery, basic orthopaedic, clinical investigation, obstetrics, maternity, gynaecology, high dependency and coronary care, palliative care, medical imaging, pathology and paediatrics. Additional services include Mental Health, Alcohol and other Drugs Service, oral health, physiotherapy, dietetics, speech pathology and outreach/community based facilities, as well as a Primary Health Care Centre located at Boyne Valley. A private Mater Misericordiae Hospital is adjacent to the Gladstone Hospital and operates within a co-location agreement.
Gladstone Hospital has approximately 282 full time equivalent staff delivering services across acute, community and primary care. Approximately 500 babies are born at the Gladstone Hospital each year and approximately 1600 surgical cases performed in the two operating theatres. There is a 29 bed mixed General Surgical and Medical Ward and a four bed High Dependency Unit where patients may be held pending retrieval, or for close observation not possible on the wards. Additional beds are available for paediatrics. The hospital has a busy surgical outpatient clinic reviewing a wide variety of surgical conditions.
Consultants are supported clinically in both the ward and clinics by Registrar and RMO cover 24/7. Administrative support for the ward and the Department is also provided.

The region includes beachside towns, secluded beaches, scenic National Parks as well as Gladstone being the major port city exporting minerals from Central Queensland.

The area boasts an average high of 32 degrees in the Summer with a low of 13 degrees in winter which makes it highly liveable. You can enjoy coastal living in the area - opportunities for boating, island hopping, exploring are bountiful. Additionally, you can enjoy the Southern Great Barrier Reef - sailing, snorkelling and diving.
