The successful applicant will join colleagues in a dynamic and forward looking department that is supported by a comprehensively equipped established JAG accredited endoscopy Unit, Clinical Nutrition CNS and networked BBV service.

This 10 session replacement post arose upon a background of appointment of a second Gastroenterologist following the initiation of bowel cancer screening (10/2008). The current Endoscopy Unit was refurbished and consequently was the first Unit offering most modalities of GI endoscopy to be awarded JAG accreditation and as such became a beacon site.

All endoscopes and processors have been renewed in 2015. There is a daily triage of Consultant Gastroenterologist gastroenterology orientated cases via the Acute admissions ward amounting to c. 600/year/ gastro consultant. 600 GI endoscopies per year approximately 40:60% split between upper and lower procedures.

There will also be an opportunity to contribute to the teaching of medical students from the Universities of Swansea and Cardiff. The post is part of a 1 in 10 General Medical take based in Mid Wales within a unique model that enables fixed commitments on the week days.

Following The Ministerial review of Healthcare for Mid Wales a Mid Wales Collaborative has been set up and there are exciting opportunities to develop
collaborative systems that would enhance accessibility for the populations covered. The potential for Health Board-wide developments and a closer liaison
with primary care and social services is substantial.

The aim is to provide a spectrum of flexible and responsive services across the Health Board, encompassing:

  • Development of a comprehensive *Gastroenterology Service* across Health Board
  • Acute inpatient assessment and treatment
  • General and Specialist DGH outpatient clinics
  • Effective leadership to multidisciplinary staff members of the unit
  • Development of teaching, training and research within the Organisation

Office accommodation, secretarial support and full IT facilities including access to intranet and internet will be provided.

You will enjoy excellent conditions of employment, whilst building your future in one of the best locations in the UK. West Wales is beautiful, sharing rugged coastlines with misty mountains. Outdoor sports are easy to pursue, whilst the amenities of urban centres such as Swansea and Cardiff are not too far away. The pace of life can be fast or slow, with a diverse range of people sharing an envious work-life balance across the region, with excellent quality schools, and reasonable property prices contribute to low living costs and high quality of life.

All posts will be offered on a 12 month locum contract initially with a view to becoming a substantive post thereafter.

Where necessary support will be given to help you obtain CESR and join the Specialist Register

If not already registered with the GMC, applications will only be considered if you have taken steps to start this process including successful completion of IELTS
