This is a great opportunity to take on an Consultant Gastro position in a lovely part of South Queensland.

  • Permanent, full-time position
  • 320-bed teaching hospital and base hospital for region
  • Remuneration up to AUD$410,467pa, depending on experience PLUS oncall.

The Department of Medicine’s current team comprises Director, 11.2 FTE specialists, Visiting Medical Specialists, 19 registrar/principal house officers and 20 junior medical officers.

In this job you will  provide support to the Director of Medicine in the delivery and ongoing development of a first class gastroenterology service within the Toowoomba Hospital and Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service.

 

Core areas of responsibility include:

  • Running the Endoscopy Service.
  • Running general Gastroenterology and Hepatology clinics.
  • Assist with the General Medicine oncall.
  • Leading a multidisciplinary team.
  • Teaching and mentoring.
  • Initiate, participate in Clinical Research (manage or own).
  • Maintaining yours and your team's professional development.

You will be an experienced consultant/specialist gastroenterologist with strong experience in your specialty and sound experience in general internal medicine, all within a multidisciplinery team context. Your communication and interpersonal skills will be excellent, with a strong ability to liaise productively with all stakeholders. Further you will be an enthusiastic teacher and enjoy a collaborative approach to your work. Experience in clinical audits is a must.

 

Applicants who have completed specialist training in comparable countries of training - UK, NZ, Ireland, USA, Canada and South Africa - will be highly regarded as would Physicians who have already been assessed as substantially comparable by RACP.

 

The Hospital

The Darling Downs Hospital and Health Service, of which Toowoomba Hospital is the major hospital with over 320 beds, provides a comprehensive range of high-quality acute, sub-acute, mental health, drug and alcohol, oral health, residential aged care, and community health services. They deliver clinical services to a regional population of approx 300,000, which continues to grow. Spanning 90,000 square kilometres, the catchment area includes both large and small rural community settings and the Hospital is the major regional centre providing a comprehensive range of specialist consultative services to all these surrounding districts.

There is a strong commitment to medical education and continuing professional development, and the Hospital and Health Service has a major teaching role, with active clinical training programmes in place at both undergraduate and postgraduate level for the multidisciplinary healthcare team.

The Location
