Consultant Gastroenterologist required in North Yorkshire

Head Medical currently have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Gastroentrologist to work in North Yorkshire, a fantastic part of the country which is home to two national parks, a beautiful coastline, and the city of York; a place which is consistently voted one of the best to live in the UK.

The area has high quality schools in both the state and independent sectors and there are excellent road and rail links to surrounding towns and cities as well as easy access to the beautiful Yorkshire Moors and Dales and the spectacular beaches of the East Yorkshire Coast. London is accessible by train in under 2 hours and there are regional airports in Leeds and Hull.

The Gastroenterology departments are based across two hospital sites and are going through an exciting period of growth. They are currently looking for dynamic individuals to help shape the future of existing gastroenterology services and to develop new ones.

This offers the opportunity of working within a Trust whose catchment population amounts to 800,000. The successful candidate will facilitate the development of sub specialist interests across both sites. Both sites benefit from a full team of junior doctors and have access to a 24/7 endoscopy nurse on-call. Consultants employed by the Trust are expected to work cross site in order to support the delivery of its services.

The Gastroenterology Department provides all aspects of gastroenterology and specialist hepatology across both sites and enjoys excellent surgical and the full range of MDT support. Current sub-specialisms include IBD, capsule endoscopy, advanced endoscopy, nutrition and viral hepatology. In addition to endoscopy facilities, there are excellent radiology facilities on both sites.

Construction of a new 7-room endoscopy unit on the York site is scheduled for completion in October 2019, which will offer further opportunities for the development of advanced and subspecialist endoscopic modalities, such as EUS. It will be one of the UK’s biggest and most advanced units of its kind. There are also highly supported opportunities for clinical research and to undertake teaching of undergraduate students as part of the Hull and York Medical School.

The successful candidate must have a higher medical qualification (MRCP or equivalent) and be on the GMC Specialist Register for G(I)M and Gastroenterology or be within twelve months of obtaining the CCT at the time of the interview. Your clinical skills and expertise will be of a high standard covering both Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine. A familiarity with issues of service organisation and development would be particularly advantageous.
