We are currently seeking a Consultant in Emergency Medicine for an exciting opportunity joining a small but high performing team in a sunny subtropical town on Queensland's coast.
It is a regional town (not remote) of approx. 50,000 inhabitants known for its deep sea harbour and port, and as a lifestyle choice for those seeking a change in pace enabling a true work/life balance. Feedback from EM Consultants placed in Queensland previously regularly cites a greater balance between work and leisure time.
The EM Department is being upgraded courtesy of major investment from the State government. The aim of the upgrade is to double the capacity of the existing facility and enable the hospital to meet future demographic demands whilst improving clinical capability, patient care etc
The hiring manager is looking for a specialist to join the team. Someone who is proactive and innovative, up to date with current developments in Emergency Medicine, and who is experienced in teaching and interested in medical education.

You will have significant experience and skills across Emergency Medicine; have proven leadership skills and experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment; an interest in medical education and teaching, providing supervision and education to medical students and other clinical staff, and take a proactive approach to maintaining your own professional development; as well as have a commitment to quality improvements and a willingness to be involved in continuous quality improvement programmes.
You will hold Fellowship of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicine (FACEM) or equivalent from, e.g. FRCEM, and be registered or eligible for registration with AHPRA as a specialist in Emergency Medicine.
If you are an overseas trained physician and you have been assessed by the ACEM as "substantially comparable", this is very helpful.
Please note that depending on your personal background and experience, you may be required to fulfil English language requirements, such as IELTS or OET, as part of the registration process.
The Hospital caters to a regional population of approximately 65,000 incorporating smaller rural/coastal settlements within its catchment area. The Hospital is a 70 bed facility and has approximately 282 full time equivalent staff who deliver services across acute, community and primary care. Approximately 500 babies are born at the Gladstone Hospital each year and approximately 1600 surgical cases are performed in the two operating theatres.
