We’re seeking an experienced Consultant Cardiologist for the District General Hospital in Rotorua, in the beautiful Lakes region of the Central North Island.

You will join a team of experienced physicians with subspecialty qualifications in Cardiology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology and Respiratory and Obstetric Medicine. In addition to supporting and further developing non-invasive diagnostics, as part of the team, it is hoped you will also participate in the acute general medicine on-call roster for part of the year, as well.
Cardiac services are provided within general medicine and it includes delivery of inpatient Cardiology support on CCU, dedicated specialist cardiology clinics and a range of non-invasive diagnostic modalities (ambulatory cardiac monitoring, 2D/3D transthoracic ECHO, trans-oesophageal ECHO, contrast echocardiography, CT coronary angiography).
There is good support by administrative staff and all levels of junior medical staff.
Requirements
For this role, you will have broad specialist experience in cardiology and general internal medicine, and a sound understanding of contemporary models of care.
You will also have proven leadership skills and experience working in a multidisciplinary team environment; an interest in medical education and teaching, including providing supervision and education to house officers, registrars and other clinical staff; and of course, a commitment in contributing to ongoing quality improvement programmes.

Although it’s a relatively small city (population 59,000), it’s vibrant and has a huge tourist and adventure sports industry that drives the local economy and welcomes tourists from all over the world, all year round.

But there’s lots to do if you also enjoy a more leisurely pace of life too, with funky little cafés, bars and restaurants, fishing, sailing, exploring the many lakes, as well as the proximity to places such as the beaches in Tauranga (1hr drive), Hamilton (1hr 20min) and Auckland (3 hrs). There is a domestic airport with daily flights to Auckland’s international airport, making connections to/from Rotorua very easy (45 minutes).

What’s on offer?
- Total package ranges NZ$190,000 - $280,000 per annum, depending on experience
- This includes: Base salary from NZ$161,304 to $240,000 pa (approx £83,000 to £125,000 pa), depending on level of experience; On call calculated on top of your base; Continuing Medical Education Allowance NZ$16,000 + 10 days CME leave pa.

Medical Registration
Ideally, you will hold FRACP and full Vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ).
If you are an overseas specialist cardiologist and/or general physician, you will hold equivalent specialist qualifications from either Australia (FRACP), the UK (via CCT), Ireland (via CCT), Canada (FRCPC) or USA (Board certification) that will enable Provisional Vocational (long term) registration or Locum Tenens (short term up to 12 months) registration.
