Consultant Anaesthetist - Shetland, Scotland
An excellent opportunity is now available for a Consultant Anaesthetist to join a great NHS healthboard located in the Shetland Isles which is off the north coast of Scotland. This is an incredible location, although it is remote, it is easily accessed by air or sea, and has great facilities in the main populated area around Lerwick. Fantastic for those who enjoy wildlife and the outdoors, and incredible for raising a family.
The post is advertised as full time, and permanent, you will have broad general anaesthetics experience and preferably a special interest in one of the following; pain medicine, obstetric anaesthesia or trauma. The department provides comprehensive general anaesthetic and critical care services. Departmental workload includes sessional commitments to elective and emergency anaesthesia, pain services, anaesthetic pre-assessment and High Dependency. On call commitment is 1 in 4 but it is much less intense than in mainland district general hospitals. It would be unusual for the on-call consultant to be required in the hospital after 4pm more than once or twice per week although telephone advice may be required. There is rarely the need for emergency anaesthesia after 10pm at night.
There is a very good working relationship with NHS Grampian, and you would be eligible for Honourary Consultant status with the Grampian Healthboard (Aberdeen regions) for the purposes of regular periods of secondment for professional development and skills refreshment.
You will need to hold full GMC Specialist registration, or be eligible for entry to the specialist register, and hold FRCA or equivalent. Please get in touch to discuss your individual circumstances, and to request a full job description.
