We are seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist to be part of a great team in a stunning setting in Northern Western Tasmania.

 

The Role

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Specialist in Anaesthetics, who will work as part of the Department of Anaesthetics across the North West Region of Tasmania.  The population of the area is approximately 116,000 within a total Tasmanian population of around 500,000. The Tasmanian Health Service – North West Region provides both acute and sub-acute services.

An interest in intensive care medicine would be highly regarded.

This position will be attractive to a highly skilled and motivated medical professional who views challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicant will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.

Attractive remuneration packages can range from $235,000 per annum to $360,000, dependant on level and experience, plus extras and superannuation.  There is also the potential for relocation and accommodation assistance, and a commitment to ongoing professional development.

The Facilities

There are two hospitals in the area, approximately 40 mins apart:

The North West Regional Hospital at Burnie and  is a modern 160 bed facility providing high quality health care and specialist services to North West Tasmania and King Island. It offers services in medical, surgical and allied health specialties through inpatient and outpatient departments.  The hospital caters for the emergency resuscitation, surgery and intensive care of most trauma patients and other medical conditions. 

The Mersey Community Hospital in Latrobe,  has 100 beds and offers general and specialist health services to the region.  In 2009/10 the Mersey dealt with 25,830 presentations to emergency, 8536 inpatient admissions, 48,017 outpatient visits and conducted 7798 operations.  They have a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program and have close ties with the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School and with TAFE Tasmania.

The Mersey is the only hospital in the country owned and funded by the Australian Government, and by arrangement it is operated by the Tasmanian Government.  Under this agreement the Mersey has had a major refurbishment, bought a lot of new equipment and recruited more medical and nursing staff.

The University of Tasmania Rural Clinical School is located on campus at NWRH. The North West Region participates in a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program with the Rural Clinical School. It is anticipated that the appointee will have significant involvement in the delivery of the Undergraduate General Medicine education program.

The Region also has a close working relationship with the University of Tasmania and it is anticipated that the successful candidate would have the opportunity to be appointed to a University academic position.

Burnie has an art deco flavour, with fine architectural examples that you can explore on foot.

Latrobe is a river town famous for its heritage and the fresh produce that grows in the region's rich and fertile soils. There are lots of eateries serving fresh produce, plus scenic farm gates and vineyards where you can sample food from the source.
