The Service and Hospital
Manning Rural Referral Hospital is the major acute specialist hospital of the Lower North Coast Health Service and operates 160 beds (including 20 Mental Health) from its location in Taree on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales.
It provides a range of health care services to the local population (100,000 people encompassing an area of about 1500 sq. miles), including intensive care, general surgery, general medicine, fast track rehabilitation, maternity services, children’s services, medical oncology and palliative care. The hospital has a stroke unit which is co-located in a general medical ward. The campus also has mental health, drug and alcohol units.
The service started a $20 million redevelopment just last year which led to significant enhancements of cancer care and renal services. This included construction of a new two storey cancer treatment and renal dialysis building. Within the new purpose-built facility for cancer services and renal dialysis, the Manning Hospital redevelopment will deliver improved staff and patient amenities and clinical spaces that will assist the delivery of contemporary models of care. Construction of the new building is expected to be completed later this year.
