We are looking for a positive, enthusiastic, team-orientated Specialist Anaesthetist. In anticipation of the new AUD$168 million hospital scheduled for completion in 2.5 year’s time, the opportunity to contribute to service development is an important component of the role. If you have a subspecialty interest in pain, this would be advantageous but not compulsory.
There will also be plenty of scope for those interested in research and education, including the opportunity to work closely with the Research Department at Goulburn Valley Health and with the Health Service affiliated Universities.
Goulburn Valley Health (GV Health) is a Regional Public Health Service while the main campus in Shepparton is the major acute referral site. They are a growing health care facility and service diverse, multicultural communities. Shepparton is one of the largest regional health services outside Melbourne, a modern, 280-bed hospital with four theatres, in-house MRI and CT services, and a state-of-the-art clinical skills laboratory.
Work on the new build AUD$168 million redevelopment of the Shepparton hospital will start next year and is scheduled for completion by 2020. The redevelopment and expansion will include three new operating theatres, two new wards and an extended emergency department. The hospital's maternity unit will also be refurbished and a new special care nursery constructed. It will include 64 inpatient beds, 10 intensive care unit beds, seven operating theatres, a 12-bed maternity department, 10 special care nursery cots and a dedicated eight-bed paediatric ward. The new emergency department will have 36 treatment spaces and a nine-bed short stay unit, doubling the current emergency capacity at the hospital. Meanwhile, dialysis patients will benefit from a new and expanded 16-chair unit.
The Department of Anaesthesia is comprised of seven full time equivalent Staff Specialist Anaesthetists, four VMOs and is accredited for ANZCA training. The Department provides anaesthetic services for a variety of specialties including general surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, dental, obstetrics & gynaecology, paediatrics, urology, gastroenterology and psychiatry.
Shepparton is located in central Victoria and is just two hours’ drive north of Melbourne with proximity to alpine snowfields, rivers and lakes, wineries and the arts. This is a terrific opportunity to enjoy the glorious weather, great lifestyle and the sports and attractions of a major regional city.
Real estate is very affordable, with three bedroom house and land packages starting around AUD$250,000, whilst AUD$350,000 should buy you some luxury. Pre-loved homes cover a wide price range and there are plenty of investment opportunities. The median house price is an estimated $237,500.
Education opportunities are manyfold with 14 day care facilities, 13 kindergartens, 26 primary schools, 6 secondary colleges (including Catholic and Grammar schools) and 3 tertiary institutions. Several smaller country schools are located just outside of Shepparton (5 to 15 minutes drive). In addition to excellent public schools, private and catholic education is also available.
Shepparton delights in great coffee shops – including both local boutiques and the famous brands. Food malls, and dozens of cafes and restaurants give you plenty of choice and price options. It’s history of migration has evolved the large selection of cuisine, so if you fancy Turkish, Japanese, Indian, Thai, Lebanese, Chinese, Italian or a bistro meal, you can find it!
