An opportunity exists for an experienced Clinical Director (Psychiatrist) to join the Wide Bay Mental Health & Specialised Services at the Hervey Bay and Maryborough Hospitals. The Wide Bay area is arguably one of the most beautiful regions of Queensland.

The Wide Bay Mental Health & Specialised Services provide  inpatient  services  through  the  Bundaberg  and  Maryborough  Mental  Health Inpatient Units and are supported by a 20 bed Community Care Unit and a 10 bed Step Up Step Down sub-acute unit. Community Mental Health Services are provided through the Bundaberg, Maryborough and Hervey Bay Community Mental Health Centres, Childers Hospital, and Gayndah Community Mental Health Centre, Gayndah. The Hospital in the Home mental health program at Hervey Bay provides high level care in a community setting for those that would otherwise require inpatient treatment.

Your contribution to delivering a first class mental health service will include:

  • Undertake comprehensive psychiatric assessment, diagnosis and treatment that ensures best practice clinical interventions are provided by the service to consumers
  • Provide expert psychiatry services, including new  and  review  consumer  assessments,  outpatient sessions and clinical rounds and participate in after-hours on call and weekend roster
  • Provide multidisciplinary care coordination, with focus on rehabilitation of persons with mental illness at the Hervey Bay and Maryborough facilities.
  • Development of formal links with primary care providers, particularly general practitioners, to promote continuity  of  treatment,  shared  management  and  provide  ongoing  education  about  psychiatric disorders and the provision of professional support
  • Ensure and provide supervision, training and training of registrars, junior medical staff and other health care team members
  • Supervise day-to-day activities of allocated junior medical staff
  • Ensure  ongoing  supervision  of  registrars  in  training  as  per  the  Royal  Australia  and  New  Zealand College of Psychiatrists standards and ensure ongoing accreditation of the service for college trainees

To be considered for this position you must have:

  • FRANZCP.
  • Drivers licence C class.
  • Extensive clinical experience with a broad knowledge and skill set in Psychiatry.
  • Leadership and management experience of a mental health service.
  • Strong communication skills to operate effectively in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Commitment to principals of quality improvement, patient safety and clinical governance.
