The Role
To manage daily the Hyperbaric Unit (HBU) including all clinical and technical staff and to liaise with the supporting departments to ensure 24/7 provision of a safe and effective HB service.
You will treat critically ill divers requiring urgent hyperbaric treatment. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and hence must be skilled in airway management, ventilation, sedation and resuscitation. The appointee may be required to treat ventilated patients in the Unit and will liaise with intensivists in the aftercare of these patients. Training of GGH anesthetists/intensivists supporting this service will also be required.
You will develop, update and oversee the implementation of protocols for optimizing the management of diving and other emergencies requiring Hyperbaric Oxygenation treatment and provide consultation and assistance to clinical colleagues in other specialties with management of patients with conditions that would benefit from Hyperbaric Oxygenation treatment.
You will also develop an out-patient medical fitness assessment service for various categories of divers as well as a follow-up clinic for divers after emergency Hyperbaric Oxygenation intervention treatment;
There will also be the opportunity to carry out Consultant Anaesthetist sessions within Gozo General Hospital.
