We have an opportunity for a Locum Surgical Vascular and/or Cardiothorac Registrar for the period of early December 2017 to early February 2018 in New Zealand. Arrive in time for the Kiwi Summer!

The Role

The department provides secondary/tertiary inpatient and outpatient servic es for disorders and diseases of the heart including congenital heart defects, coronary artery disease, heart valve problems and heart failure, with the exception of paediatric cardiac surgery, transplantation, ventricular assist and ECMO.  There are approximately 650 cases per year, including coronary artery bypass, valve repair and replacement (including TAVI*) and aortic surgery.  
The Hospital

Waikato Hospital’s Cardiology, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CCTVS) team provide a combination of cardiac, thoracic and vascular procedures in the one speciality area. The team includes cardiologists, cardiothoracic consultants, vascular consultants, registrars and house officers, interns, and ward staff includes a clinical nurse manager, associate clinical nurse manager, nurse educator, nurses, health care assistants and reception staff.

Location 

The Waikato region is the fourth largest in area & population in New Zealand. The region boasts lush, green hills, with exceptional surfing opportunities on the west coast and glorious beaches on the east coast.  Surfers come from all over the world to experience nearby Manu Bay's famous left-hand break and the Raglan Surf Beach lifestyle is appealing to all. Ski fields, fresh and saltwater fishing grounds are easily reachable as are many beaches and holiday spots.  New Zealand’s largest city is an easy 90 minute freeway drive away making this a great location with many possibilities.
