This is an exceptional opportunity for someone who would enjoy and thrive working within a unique Australian outback setting.
If you have completed Foundation Training and have a strong interest in Emergency Medicine, this is the perfect opportunity to gain experience working in a small and rural close-knit community.
The Role
The Hospital is a major referral centre for nine other remote health services and is therefore the primary facility for the treatment of trauma cases. There is a Royal Flying Doctor Service base which provides rural retrievals and transfers. The recent redevelopments means there is a new Emergency Department, outpatients department, Mental Health (Outpatients) Unit and Cancer care centre. In addition, there is also a new SHO lounge.
This is an 80 bed facility with the Emergency department seeing approximately 30,000 to 35,000 presentations per annum. The case mix is extremely varied and provides an opportunity to gain 'hands- on' procedural experience as well as an opportunity to broaden your clinical skills. Not only that, but you will also gain exposure to Aboriginal Health.
If you are a Consultant reading this and are aware of SHOs who have completed their Foundation training and are seeking a temporary post to continue to develop their skills, please do pass this on.
The Location
Although Mount Isa is a small town, established as a result of the mining industry, it is home to a variety of different cultures with a population of 25,000 (34,000 including surrounding districts) and services a region spanning 300,000 square kilometres. Jump in the four wheel drive and explore the outback, do a bit of fishing, or camp out under the stars.
The local airport has regular flights to Brisbane and ongoing international connections.
In this role, you will experience a supportive community and a relaxed lifestyle in a truly unique environment, as well as a diverse patient mix and an excellent remuneration package.
What Head Medical Can Do For You
Arranging a position overseas is very exciting, but we understand that it can also be daunting and time consuming. We’re the UK's specialist in international medical recruitment and we‘ve helped many Doctors relocate since we first started out in 2008 (you can read what people have said about working with us on our testimonials page). We know it’s important to balance career opportunities with lifestyle and we’ll talk through your plans and will get to know you to make sure we find the right role in the right location.
Once we have secured a job for you, we’ll manage the Medical Registration and Visa application process, and support you with the relocation itself.
