We are seeking an Emergency Medicine Consultant to join a friendly team, located in one of the country’s most iconic kiwi cities and one that thrives on its adventure tourist economy. It really is central to all the outdoor pursuits that New Zealand is famous for, so if you love the outdoors this is the place for you!

  • Small and vibrant multicultural city with plenty to see and do
  • An area steeped in New Zealand history and Maori legend
  • Centrally located and within easy reach of Auckland, the lakes, the beach & the ski fields

The Role

This vacancy is a result of a $12.8 million redevelopment of the Taupo hospital which will double the size of the Emergency Department. You will be part of a friendly and supportive professional team that manages a variety of interesting medical and trauma presentations (adult and Paediatrics). The new refurbished Emergency Medicine department  has two observation rooms, two resuscitation bays, ten cubicles a day case theatre and an out patient clinic.

Consultants in New Zealand are well remunerated and enjoy good working conditions and an excellent work life balance. Competitive salaries, favourable working conditions, six weeks annual leave plus generous Continuing Medical Education provisions are all standard. Assistance with relocation, accommodation and transport is also provided.

The Location

If you’re not familiar with this part of New Zealand, it is visually stunning and an area of unique natural beauty and geothermal activity, offering a great outdoors lifestyle, perfect for taking advantage of the region’s hot summers and mild winters.

There are 13 different lakes in the immediate area and easy road access to the rest of the North Island and Auckland, so day trips to the beaches in the East and to the seasonal ski slopes in the West are only an hour away by car. Taupo (population approx. 32,418), is vibrant and has a huge tourist and adventure sports industry that drives the local economy and welcomes tourists from all over the world, all year round. It is also an area steeped in New Zealand history and Maori legend and offers a variety of opportunities to learn more about the indigenous Maori culture.

Recent local developments also include the introduction of Trans-Tasman international flights directly from the local Airport, which means a quick side trip to Australia for a short holiday with the family is easy and convenient.
