We are recruiting a Consultant Gastroenterologist to be based in a Tertiary level centre with close affiliation to the university and school of medicine in Dunedin – an area well known for its heritage and hospitality. You will be joining a dedicated team of nine senior staff who primarily provide acute inpatient care for patients.

  • Commencing July 2014
  • 350 bed tertiary level teaching hospital
  • Vibrant City well known for its heritage, wildlife and Southern Hospitality.
  • Temperate climate which leads to warm summers and relatively mild winters.

The Role

Dunedin Hospital is a tertiary hospital with close links to the University of Otago, one of New Zealand's leading research Institutes. Teaching sessions are a regular feature of the department and include formal lectures, weekly journal club, medical forums, grand rounds and audit meetings. The Physicians pride themselves on providing excellent Registrar exam preparation courses and enjoy a nearly 100% success rate.

The department delivers a full range of in-patient and out-patient Gastroenterology services across the region, and, as such there may be some travel involved for the provision of out patient services.  As part of the team, you will participate in a 1:4 on call roster and have a passion for teaching.  Opportunities also exist for those who would like to be involved in clinical and lab research.  There are plans to expand and develop the service and you will also will be encouraged to participate and contribute to the development.
