New South Wales

New South Wales is Australia's oldest and most populous state, located in the south-east of the country. It has endless unspoilt beaches, breathtaking natural treasures and one of the world’s most famous and vibrant cities, Sydney. New South Wales has more than 780 national parks and reserves covering more than 8% of the state. These parks range from rainforests, spectacular waterfalls, rugged bush to marine wonderlands and outback deserts, including World Heritage areas. New South Wales is home to a number of cultural institutions of importance to the nation, including a number of major art galleries, museums and musical bodies.

There is a huge variety of activities to undertake in the state, with a focus on sports and the outdoors, such as climbing Sydney Harbour Bridge, bike riding and diving in Lord Howe Island and skiing in the Snowy Mountains or, if you prefer more of relaxed pace, you can enjoy day trips to the likes of the Hunter Valley vineyards or the romantic Blue Mountains, serene beaches such as Byron and Jervis Bay and Moree’s natural artesian spas.

New South Wales has a temperate climate with warm to hot summers and cool winters. It is hottest in the state's north-west and coldest in the Snowy Mountains.
