Christchurch Opens New City Mall - 'Restart'

Christchurch Opens New City Mall - 'Restart'

31 Oct 2011

The resilient city of Christchurch has rejuvenated its city centre with the opening of the new shopping mall, ‘Restart’. The new shopping mall consists of 27 temporary shops made from brightly painted shipping containers. The mall took record sales figures for many of the businesses over the weekend, with the people of Christchurch, including the Prime Minister, John Key and Town Crier, coming out in support for the local businesses and each other.

The weekend also coincided with the tourist industry announcing that they will be taking bookings for open top tours of the damaged city as from today. Giving tourists and locals alike the opportunity to  see the phenomenal progress that has been made to help the city recover. Money from the tours will be donated to the Canterbury Earthquake recovery authority.

Whilst it has been a tough year for the people of Christchurch,  the new mall’s opening has shown how Cantabrians are resilient in restoring their city to the vibrant place it once was.

Despite the scars of the earthquake, many of the main attractions in Christchurch are open and the surrounding areas have remained unaffected.  For the most part it is business as usual and visitors are being welcomed by the friendly locals.
