Australian and New Zealand cities are best place to live 2011

Melbourne is the second most liveable city in the world according to the Global Liveability Survey list. The list which is compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit, found that Melbourne received perfect scores for education and healthcare.

Sydney came seventh while Adelaide and Perth came equal eighth. Brisbane was ranked 21 in the list of 140 cities.

Auckland, New Zealand also ranked within the top 10, with just 2.3% separating Auckland from the Number One City Vancouver.

The index takes into account factors including crime rates, cost of living, infrastructure and climate.

Australian cities outranked some of the world's most popular destinations - London was ranked 53rd while New York was 56th.
