Modern Teaching Hospital, South Island
Job ref: JB2/1532 – Permanent or Fixed Term – Start 2012
We are seeking to recruit a Consultant Neurologist for a modern regional teaching hospital situated in a lovely South Island location famous for its stunning and majestic landscapes.
The Hospital
The Hospital caters to a population base of circa 108,000 and provides a range of services, including acute medical and surgical, outpatient clinics, day procedures, 24-hour emergency department, mental health inpatient care, medical imaging diagnostics, specialist paediatric, maternity, rehabilitation and therapy services. Due to its state-of-the-art facilities and approach to education and learning, prospective candidates are offered professionally and personally rewarding career opportunities here.
The Role
The Hospital has first class facilities and first rate peer support from a very strong and collegial Neurology and Medical team across the Southern region.
The duties are of a generalist neurology practice and a variety of subspecialty interests could complement the regional team. This team currently consists of 4 Neurologists based at Dunedin Hospital (tertiary centre) with this position being the fifth in the team to be based at this Southern Hospital. After hours on call duties will be optional.
The start date is negotiable and ideally we are seeking to make a permanent appointment, however a fixed term locum appointment (12-24 months) may also be considered.
Consultants in New Zealand are well remunerated and enjoy good working conditions and an excellent work life balance. In addition to a competitive salary, recall hours, availability allowance, 30 days annual leave, the Continuing Medical Education (CME) allowance and leave allows travel, at least annually to northern hemisphere meetings. Temporary accommodation, temporary vehicle use, flights and relocation of household effects packages can be negotiated on an individual basis.
The Location
Based in a relatively small city, candidates will have access to a variety of fantastic facilities including excellent schools, lively café culture, reasonably priced housing, as well as surrounding bush reserves and beaches which are some of the most beautiful in New Zealand. The local airport also enables direct access to other parts of the country too. Essentially, the successful candidate would have all the benefits of city life with very few of the drawbacks. This part of New Zealand has a temperate and oceanic climate, similar to that experienced in parts of the UK.
