We are seeking Consultant Psychiatrists to join this established and expanding team who work to deliver a range of regional and national specialist services to the population of Wellington and surrounds. Services consist primarily of two arms: Forensic Services and Intellectual Disability (ID) Services and operate in a variety of settings encompassing community, inpatient, court and secure settings including;

• Regional Rehabilitation Inpatient Service & Extended Care Service
• National Intellectual Disability Secure Services
• Mental Health Intellectual Disability Community Team
• Consultation & Liaison Offenders Team
• Cultural Service (Maori & Pacific Islanders)
• Severe Conduct Disorder Programme
• Youth services,
• Personality disorder services.

Someone well-suited to the role will place a high value on the following; Recovery model of care; Interpersonal relationships and building trust and; Problem solving inclusively, but be able to take lead when needed. Teams are multidisciplinary and enjoy excellent links to local mental health services. There is some scope for flexibility and depending on appointees experience and interest it is possible to create a post split between ID and Forensic specialties or for Psychiatrists to work purely in ID or Forensic. You would be employed by one of New Zealand’s largest tertiary referral centres and the service is accredited for teaching and affiliated to the University of Otago and the Wellington school of medicine so research and teaching opportunities are first class.
